NAIT - New Zealand’s National Animal Identification and Tracing  scheme : The decision was made to select low frequency technology for the NAIT scheme RFID ear tags because part of NAIT’s brief from its major shareholders (Government and industry) was to select proven and commercially available technology.

OVERVIEW

  • NAIT (National Animal Identification and Tracing) is an animal identification and tracing scheme that will link people, property and animals.
  • NAIT Ltd is the industry-owned company implementing the scheme.
  • Under the NAIT scheme, cattle and deer will be tagged with an electronic NAIT-approved RFID ear tag.
  • The NAIT database will store information about each animal’s individual RFID number, its location, and the contact details of the person in charge of the animal. The database will meet animal tracing requirements for New Zealand in a way that is consistent with the guidelines of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

FAST FACTS

  • NAIT will be mandatory for cattle from 1 July 2012, and for deer from 1 March 2013.
  • Sale yard operators have specific obligations under the NAIT scheme. You will be required to report information to NAIT about animal movements to, and from, your sale yards.
  • You will be able to submit information to the NAIT database either system-to-system or over the internet.

Aleis will have NAIT software downloads available from our website as soon as it becomes available.
