uniformly throughout Australia
for the identification and
tracing of cattle and sheep. The
scheme provides for
identification of livestock for
sale, for live export or for

The committee responsible for

Permanent identification
device |
A device that is permanently
attached to livestock on the
property of birth or at a

may not be legally removed until
the livestock is slaughtered. |

A device for application to
cattle that are no longer on
their property of birth and
which are not already identified
with a Breeder or Post-breeder
device. |

The eight character alphanumeric
code for a property as allocated
by the relevant State or
Territory authority.

Ratchet tags |
Transaction Tag attached to the
tail of cattle and incorporating
a ratchet action for securing

The process of collecting,
accounting for, recovering
transponders and/or
redistributing NLIS endorsed

Rumen capsule or bolus |
A device for insertion in the
rumen of ruminant species which
is designed to remain
permanently in the rumen or

Wrap-around tail tag |
A Transaction Tag made of vinyl
that is wrapped around the tail
of cattle above the brush, and
is used for the short term

advises the NLIS Standards
Committee on technical issues
relating to devices, readers and
device standards. |

Transaction tag |
A tag or device applied to
cattle for the short term
identification of cattle during
transfer to another property,
saleyard or abattoir.
Transaction tags are regulated
under State/Territory
legislation and include
transaction ear tags, ratchet
tail tags and wrap-around tail
tags. |
