The Aleis RFID (Radio Frequency Id) / Electronic ID system enables producers to manage large volumes of cattle with a level of ease and accuracy unprecedented in the livestock industry until now.

It's every cattle producer's and feedlot operator's primary objective: to maximize the performance and profitability of each individual animal. And the one management tool all livestock producers have in common is the race.

An ideal stock management system allows producers to manage their entire livestock operations from the race. This enables them to improve efficiency, reduce costs and eliminate the potential for error - effectively giving them complete control over productivity and profitability.

The Aleis system meets all the demands of an ideal system. It is a fully integrated stock management system which gives livestock producers and feedlot operators total control over the performance of each individual animal in their herd - from its conception through to its ultimate sale and beyond.

So let's break it down step by step.

The system consists of radio frequency identification devices, a remote race antenna/reader or portable reader with a user-friendly herd management software program.

1. Radio frequency identification devices

At the time of first handling, all animals are tagged with a radio frequency device (either attached or inserted into).  Technical Information link

RUMEN PELLET

Because the devices don't require a line-of-sight to the reader, they offer significant benefits. Livestock can be identified and recorded without physically restraining the animals or sighting tags, day or night. This reduces labour costs, speeds up processing time and reduces the stress on the animal.

Embedded securely inside the housing of these devices is a highly sophisticated, individually coded, passive radio frequency transponder. Mouse over the pellet on the right to view.

The device provides the interface between the animal and the reader. The transponder Aleis uses conforms to the International Standard for livestock 11784/5. Transponder numbers are never repeated anywhere in the world.

Fixed Antenna/Readers

As tagged animals move through the race they are identified by an antenna/reader that is bolted to the race. Data collection is automated through the Aleis remote race antenna/reader. The antenna/reader can read animals of varying heights and speed, with either rumen pellets or ear tags. Recording of animal identification numbers is accurate, reliable and is not affected by dust, dirt, mud or poor weather.

Because it takes only a millisecond to read the identification number, animals can be recorded without restraint. This also means that up to 3,000 animals a day can be identified and weighed, compared to older identification methods that average around a few hundred head a day.

The race antenna/reader is transportable, making it easily moved from the race to other recording locations such as loading ramps and plunge dips. The antenna/reader can be operated by battery, solar power or 240/12-volt power supply. Aleis also provides hand-held portable models which produce the max read distance of 1.2 metre from the operators hand.
