My computer won't connect to my RFID reader, why?

Please complete the following steps to try and resolve your connection issues with your RFID reader.

  1. Make sure that you computer / serial lead is firmly connected at both ends.
  2. If you are using a USB to serial adaptor, please make sure that you have the USB drive installed. A disk was sent within the box containing the USB adaptor, this disk has the drives on. Please follow the manufacturers instruction. 
  3. Check in the "Device Manager"  (Start / Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager) under "Ports" to see if the USB lead setup has created a "COM". 
  4. If the computer will not automatically find the COM port, click on the "Setup" button in Aleis DataLink and untick the "Automatically scan COM Ports" check box.
  5. Then click on "Click to show available COM Ports" box. Select the correct COM Port and close the setup box. It should now find the reader.
